Sedation Dentistry

A better smile does not have to come at the expense of your sense of peace and calm. We understand how important it is to come away from the dentist with a positive experience that keeps you coming back to maintain your smile. At Rocky Point Dental in Port Moody, our dentists offer sedation dentistry as an option for nervous, apprehensive, or fearful patients. Our office is designed specifically to make your sedation dentistry experience comfortable and relaxed.

Safe & Efficient Sedatives for Dental Patients

Sedation services are very safe and effective, with very few side effects. The sedative medication works to relax the central nervous system, allowing patients to feel calm and reducing the experience and memory of sensations. This also improves how efficiently our team can work. Our team is certified and experienced in delivering various types of sedation for short or lengthy procedures.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation Dentistry

Patients who have a difficult time relaxing or sitting still for invasive or lengthy dental procedures can be provided with nitrous oxide sedation therapy. Once you arrive at the clinic, we will deliver the nitrous oxide (also commonly called laughing gas) through a comfortable nasal mask. The effects set in almost right away, and after your appointment, they fade almost as quickly. Throughout your procedure, you will be conscious and responsive but very sleepy and relaxed. After, you will likely have little to no memory of your procedure.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation can be an option for patients who experience significant anxiety leading up to a dental procedure. Our dentists will prescribe oral sedative pills in advance, as well as instructions about when and how to take them. We typically ask you to take them an hour or two before your procedure to allow them time to set in. We may also ask you to take them earlier (or even the night before) to help calm your nerves so you can sleep soundly and go about your normal routine.
